Far from home
June saw the 2019 editions of Web Series World Cup partners Valencia's Cinema Jove and Die Seriale. We're excited to announce our fourth swap selection, this one from Die Seriale, will be the pilot for German show Hinterher.

This month sees fests in Lima, Melbourne, New York (Stareable) and Toronto all have their runs out, with particularly strong showings for NZ titles at Melbourne and Toronto. Germany's WebFest Berlin has announced its line-up for September's outing here, although sadly without a NZ title in the mix.

Having better luck with selection overseas is short Vaspy, by Hweiling Ow (#NZWF16 winner AFK and #NZWF18 winner Ao-terror-oa). Vaspy will have its world premiere screening in Montreal later this month, at premiere genre festival Fantasia.

The Web Series World Cup table is starting to take shape, and that shape is very large indeed. Almost 600 shows having picked up ranking points so far this year, and 13 of those shows hail from NZ. Roberto Nascimento's Sui Generis is currently the highest-placed of the NZ shows.

Congrats to all the teams who made it through the 48Hours shoot weekend. Heats are now ongoing. City Finals run through much of July, followed by the Grand Final in mid-August in Auckland. Good luck to all the teams still in the hunt for glory.

Hot on the heels of that final in Auckland will be the opening of this year's NZIFF, the first without Bill Gosden at the helm.

The festival's full Auckland programme is now released, including Hamish Bennett's Bellbird and Ant Timpson's Come to Daddy. Among the short films playing in the Ngā Whanaunga Māori Pasifika Shorts programme is Yellow Roses by Paula Whetu Jones, whose He Ao Kotahi: Pai in Palestine (above) was a finalist at #NZWF17.

Among the projects supported under the NZFC's Catalyst He Kauahi initiative is Rachel Ross' Green, produced by Morgan Leigh Stewart, whose K' Rd Stories was a finalist at #NZWF16.

We're starting to add more editorial content to our site more regularly, so do have a nosey at our news page now and then. In the last few weeks we've added pieces on recent releases K Rd Chronicles and Millennial Jenny, both of which are still rolling out new new material.

Wrap Your Eyeballs Around...
The Spaceman (above), the latest episode of Cirkus' long-running if somewhat sporadic series Jack of All Trades (a finalist at #NZWF16) has recently launched. Take 1 minute and 57 seconds out of your day to enjoy it...

...Naashon Zalk's excellent K Rd Chronicles, now just about complete on Stuff. Read more about how the show came about here...

...More of Holly Shervey and Emmett Skilton's snack-size treats of Millennial Jenny are now rolling out via Instagram (@millennialjenny)...

...Rose McMahon's In the Rainbow (below). Based on coming of age stories of LGBTQ+ youth in New Zealand, it's now on TVNZ OnDemand...

And, coming later this month, season 3 of Aroha Bridge (fka Hook Ups) will play on Maori TV, which gives you plenty of time to revisit the show first series here and second series there.
