Welcome to our March newsletter.
It's time to catch up on what's been happening and what's coming up. This month's newsletter comes to you from Hong Kong, where #NZWF festival director Keith Barclay is (wearing his day job hat as editor of SCREENZ) avoiding sunny Auckland by attending Asia's biggest market for film and TV content, FILMART, where there's plenty of talk about the opportunities and challenges facing creators of online content.
While online content doesn't get bought and sold much (or for very much money) compared with the deals done for films and TV programmes, it's certainly a growing part of the global content distribution business.
We'll get the shameless #NZWF plug out of the way early, and remind you that our first submission deadline for 2017 hits on 31 March – which is less than three weeks away. Get over to FilmFreeway to get your submissions in if you can, because the fee goes up after 31 March. Don't be an April fool!

We're proud (and very grateful) to be able to share that NZ On Air has again come to the NZ Web Fest party, jumping on board as a sponsor of the event for the second year.
The Web Series World Cup gets under way later this month, so we'll be keeping a keen eye on who's making the early running.
If you haven't seen it yet, check out new web series POI Hopes and Dreams, from producer Lanita Ririnui-Ryan who was a presenter at #NZWF16. Keith was lucky enough to be invited to the launch, which was held in Auckland last week and a great evening it was. Lanita's production company Through The Fire has another web series on the way later this year.

The team behind Auckward Love, nominees at the #NZWF16 awards, is now gearing up for season three. We're looking forward to it. And, as it seems all about the women this month, Flat 3's Friday Night Bites keeps on keeping on.
#NZWF16 presenter Kate Manihera has recently shared some tips with the Daily Mail. Fellow make-up vlogger Shaaanxo (pictured, below) pops up in the 2017 Super Rugby campaign, Super Boom Boom, and is one of the early Featured Creators announced for VidCon Australia, along with #NZWF15 presenter and award winner Jamie Curry.

If you've got news to share, we'd be happy to help you out spreading the word. Let us know and we'll gladly skite on your behalf in our next newsletter. And so your news can travel even further, get a friend or colleague or even someone you don't really like that much to sign up for our monthly newsletter and/or follow our social media channels.

If you're looking for cash to make your web series, the submission deadline for the TVNZ/NZ On Air-funded New Blood scheme is 31 March.
We're on the lookout for a couple of volunteers for this year's web fest who can give an hour or two a week from mid-April (for mostly online tasks) that will help keep things moving along behind the scenes and make #NZWF17 bigger and better. If you're willing and able, please email [email protected]. We'd love to hear from you.
