WINNER: Best Actor (Clarence Ryan),
Master storyteller and indigenous activist Boori Monty Pryor takes us on the poignant, hilarious, inspiring and sometimes heartbreaking journey of growing up a blackfella in 1960s and 70s Australia. From the cops and crocs of Palm Island, across the blood-splattered disco dance floors of Melbourne to lofty halls of the Human Rights Commission.
A fictionalised account of the life of a man who stood against the tide of Australian racism, the show is the story of a man determined to preserve and share his culture – and who refused to be labelled ‘the wrong kind of black’.
Wrong Kind of Black is selected for #NZWF18 in the International Narrative category, and will play in the screening programme Whip It.
