Hi reader

Since our earlybird deadline passed, submissions have continued to trickle in for #NZWF18. Our regular submission deadline is starting to loom and hits 31 May so, if you've got a show to share, save yourself some cash and get it to us via FilmFreeway.

We've almost made our way through all the submissions we received for our earlybird deadline, and we're happy to say that if you throw your hat in the #NZWF18 ring you'll be in some very good company.

If you're in NZ, have ideas and would like someone else's cash to help make them into a web series, applications to this year's round of TVNZ's New Blood close on 21 May.

In other funding news NZ On Air has today announced funding for six online projects to celebrate Suffrage 125, marking the 125th anniversary of women getting to vote in NZ. Among the projects supported are Minimum from Notable Pictures, whose Julia Parnell is behind the excellent online anthology series Loading Docs; and Daughters Of The Migration from Tikilounge Productions.

We always enjoy seeing shows we've been lucky enough to present continue their journeys elsewhere. In the last month or so, almost one third of our 2017 selections have been selected for or played at other web fests. Several of those shows have also added to their trophy cabinets.

Four #NZWF17 selections, including our Best Actress winner Jezabel (above), were among the winners at the Miami Web Fest.

In the UK, the winners at Manchester's Pilot Light TV Festival included a couple of our 2017 selections. Sparebnb took the win for Best UK series, while Other People's Children took out the Best International Series gong.

At the Vancouver Web Fest, High Life and This is Desmondo Ray both collected awards. Desmondo also won at the Australian Directors Guild awards last weekend, and is one of eight #NZWF17 titles named for next month's Sicily Web Fest.

The Sicily line-up also includes Robert Nascimento's Sui Generis (below), a finalist at #NZWF17, and Jaya Beach-Robertson's Psusy, the best-performing of the NZ web shows on the international circuit so far this year.
Sui Generis is also named for Out Web Fest later this month, along with the Candle Wasters' Happy Playland and season 2 of Ness Simons' Pot Luck.

If you're looking for even more good things to enjoy, the programme is now out for this year's Wairoa Maori Film Festival. As always, there's plenty to like in the line-up, including Aruna Po-Ching's Salamasina’s Daughters which also plays Doc Edge.

Doc Edge is now running in Wellington, and opens in Auckland on 23 May.
