Hi reader

Our first and cheapest submission deadline is looming, so save yourself some dollars by getting your show into us asap.

For those of you who've already done the smart thing, we'd like to say thanks and to note that we're really enjoying the shows that have come in so far.

If your show has a female creator/director/producer/writer, we'd advise waiting just a few more days before submitting. We're offering a fee discount to mark International Women's Day, so go here on 8 March and use the code WHORUNTHEWORLD.

All Over the Place
None of this year's Web Series World Cup fests are yet complete, but the opener - Argentina's Buenos Aires Series - is under way right now. Before our next newsletter is due, Bogota Web Fest will be under way, with DC Web Fest hot on its heels.

Argentinian show M took the WSWC crown last year, so we're looking forward to seeing who makes the early running this time around.

The line-ups are now out for Buenos Aires (obv!), Bogota, DC, Die Seriale and Miami, so good luck to all the shows winning selections and nominations at those events. Several shows we were honoured to have at #NZWF19 continue their successful festival runs at those fests.

Four of our Canadian selections last year, Detention Adventure (below), Running With Violet, Tokens and True Dating Stories, are also up for gongs on home turf at the Canadian Screen Awards later this month.

March sees submission deadlines for no fewer than 10 WSWC fests, ourselves included (subtle AF hint). Our listings page is a good way to see them all in one place.

Here at home
Congratulations to Equity president Jennifer Ward-Lealand, who was recently named New Zealander of the Year - well-deserved recognition for the many, many things Jennifer has done to support the performing arts in NZ over many, many years.

Among those many things is being a juror for us at every edition (except the one where a show she was in was among the nominees) so we're very happy to see Jennifer's efforts recognised.

The southern hemisphere's largest indigenous film festival, Māoriland, opens later this month. Among the local titles on offer are Same But Different from Nikki Si’ulepa (Pot Luck), Marks of Mana by the Coconet's Lisa Taouma, and Anthony Butters' #NZWF19 selection Combination.

From 6 March one of our previous winners, AFK, will be fundraising for its third (and final) season on Kickstarter.

Also currently raising funds is this year's crop of Loading Docs titles, using the recently-revamped Boosted platform.

The list of WIFT award finalists contains several names who've made strong contributions to NZ web series over the years. The ceremony in Auckland on 2 April will separate the wheat from the almost-wheat, and those celebrating or commiserating hard can Berocca their way through the opening sessions of the following day's Big Screen Symposium - which has recently added Come to Daddy director Ant Timpson to its line-up.

And don't forget to...
Wrap Your Eyeballs Around
There's more of Scratched to enjoy from The Spinoff with a follow-up episode on tennis legend Ruia Morrison, which was among the winners at #NZWF19.

TVNZOD has added Paula Whetu Jones' I Date Rejects (below) to its local web series mix, with Flat 3's Meme due late this month.

If you haven't already seen the first issue of Short-Form & Indie TV, the second issue is in preparation and calling for proposals for articles. Contact Joel at [email protected] if you wish to contribute something.

Check out our calendar for upcoming application and submission deadlines, festivals, and NZ industry events.

This month's bargains are free submissions to Russia's Realist Web Fest (deadlines in March, April, May), and to Spain's Cinema Jove (closes 3 April).

As always, if you'd like to list your web festival submission deadline, date(s), or NZ screen industry funding/submission deadlines and event dates, just send the info to [email protected] and we'll add it to the calendar. You can read all our newsletters here.
